NYC LOCAL LAW 26
Prompted by the destruction of the World Trade Center and the subsequent black-out of 2003, the New York City Department of Buildings has mandated what has come to be known as 'Local Law 26'. This law mandates that commercial buildings in the 5 boroughs of NYC must install photoluminescent markers in the stairwells of New York City Class “C” commercial buildings over 75 feet in height. The NYC Local Law 26 requires that buildings of this type must be in compliance by July 1, 2006, or face fines and summonses. Other classifications of buildings (Hotel, Hospital, Nursing Home, Residential) over 75 feet in height are also on schedule to be compliant in the coming years.
